I am Simone Russell, a freelance Visual Communicator specialising in Graphic Design and Illustration.  I work from my studio in Innerleithen, a small town in the beautiful Scottish Borders.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Visual Communication from Gray's School of Art in June 2011.  I have since worked on a freelance basis for a wide variety of clients, worked as a Graphic Designer for the Technology Enhanced Learning Unit at Borders College and lecture in Visual Communication/Graphic Design on a supply basis at further education level.

I am fortunate to work everyday doing the job I love.  When I am not designing or being creative in my own studio, I deliver animation and design workshops to primary schools, secondary schools, out of school clubs and youth groups.  I also offer training and tutorial support in graphic design and animation on request.

Some of my key achievements to date include:

  • Selected to represent the Scottish Borders creatives in the Artworks Scotland pilot project for Quality in January-March 2016;
  • Product Design Winner prize in the SIE (Scottish Institute for Enterprise) New Ventures Competition in July 2011;
  • Investment funding in the Starter for 6 main business programme in July 2011;
  • Selected to represent Scotland's emerging design talent at the Scottish Parliament in the Design & Democracy exhibition in June 2011;
  • Graduated with a first class Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Visual Communication June 2011;
  •  The Carum Trust Award for consistent high standard of work during my 2nd year of my degree course;
  • Regional finalist in the Lloyds TSB Illustration Competition in January 2009.
